Q. Please tell us about your golf game these days. What's on your mind? A. My golf game feels pretty solid right now, but I am trying to work on speed and distance and to improve my short game. I'm planning on playing a mixture of CGA, PKB, and AJGA events in the coming year. I'm excited to be playing in the Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship in January representing North Carolina! It will be nice to head a little south and leave the winter weather behind! Q. Please tell us a little bit about yourself - life outside of golf. A. I started my Freshman year at Holly Springs High School (Go Hawks!) and when I'm not golfing, I stay busy with clubs and school activities. I am on the student council, in FCA club, a student ambassador and on the HSHS swim team. I love hanging out with my friends and joking around with my twin brother Michael. I also like playing with my terrier mix, Comet. Q. What would you never leave home without? A. Chapstick, my phone and headphones! Q. What's your home club? A. Our family have been members at Devils Ridge Golf Club in Holly Springs for almost 12 years. I enjoy playing and practicing at Devils Ridge because it is a great course that will test your game. I love eating at the club and wing night is my favorite! Q. Who's your coach? A. I work with Chase Duncan as my swing coach and Dona Lerner for short game. Q. What music's on your playlist before a round? A. I like all kinds of music, it really just depends on my mood. I like rap, pop, and even some country. And as the holiday season rolls around, Christmas music is definitely on my list too. Q. What clubs are in the bag? A. Driver/Woods – Titleist 917, Irons – Titleist 718 AP2, Wedges (54 and 58) – Mizuno T7, Putter– Scotty Cameron, Ball – Titleist ProV1. Catching Up With… PROFILE D evil's Ridge Golf Club's Maria Atwood triumphed at the 62nd Carolinas Junior Girls Championship last summer at Croasdaile Country Club in Durham. Her two-shot victory (her first CGA title) was partially due to a great finish: two birdies in the last seven holes. The Holly Springs native graciously took some time to answer a few questions recently.
